JoAnne S. Bass served as the 19th Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force from August 2020 to March 2024. She made history as the first woman to serve as the senior enlisted leader of any U.S. military service and the first person of Asian American descent to serve as the Air Force's top enlisted leader. Her Air Force career began in 1993 and included aviation resource management, special operations support, command chief roles, and enterprise-level enlisted leadership focused on people, readiness, and culture.
